Use this workflow when an IPR proceeding is the document set that should define the matter. In the current product, you start from the IPR proceeding number, and &AI uses that number to fetch the petition, PTAB documents, and challenged patent for the project.
Create the project and open Add an IPR
Start by creating the project from the Home workspace so you have a place to organize the PTAB matter. Once the project is open, use Add an IPR from the project's getting-started actions to open the IPR intake flow.
If the rest of the matter is already underway, you can use the same flow later to add another PTAB proceeding to the project.
Enter the proceeding number that matches the petition
In Proceeding number, enter the IPR number in IPRYYYY-NNNNN format, such as IPR2024-00001. This is the key input for the workflow. When you submit it, &AI fetches the petition and related PTAB record instead of asking you to upload the petition PDF manually.
If the number does not match the required format, the workflow will not start. Correct the number before you continue.
Open Advanced only when you need to change the default processing
Use Advanced if you want to change what &AI processes along with the proceeding. Depending on the matter, you can skip or include the written support chart, claim construction, patent family, and U.S. prosecution history.
If you enable claim construction, you can also choose the broader claim-construction mode. Most teams can leave these options at their defaults for the first pass unless they have a specific reason to narrow or speed up the run.
Start processing and let &AI build the PTAB context
Click Process IPR to start the workflow. &AI then pulls the PTAB materials into the project and begins background processing. That run fetches the petition, related PTAB documents, and the challenged patent so the project is anchored to the proceeding from the start.
As processing completes, the PTAB materials become available for follow-on work such as patent review, charting, drafting, and PTAB proceeding tracking.
Fix the common blockers before you rerun
If the workflow does not start, check the proceeding number first. The most common blocker is a formatting error or trying to start the flow without an active project.
If you need a different processing scope, reopen Advanced and adjust the skip options before running again. It is usually faster to keep the default options on the first pass, confirm the proceeding loaded correctly, and then narrow later only if the matter requires it.
Continue with the next PTAB task
After the proceeding is in the project, the natural next step is to review the challenged patent and PTAB documents, then move into search, charting, or drafting based on the assignment.
