Files overview

Written by Caleb Harris

Use the Files page to browse every document already attached to a project in &AI. It combines folder-based browsing, document previews, and quick actions for target patents, references, products, case materials, and supporting context.

When to use Files

Open Files when you need to:

  • review which materials are already in the project

  • browse target-linked folders such as cited references, prosecution history, PTAB proceedings, patent family documents, or uploaded charts

  • preview a document before opening its full detail page

  • search, sort, filter, export, or process source documents

Choose the right view

Files has two built-in views:

  • Key Files — a folder browser for navigating the project by source type and target-specific document groups

  • All Files — a flat table for scanning the full project document set at once

Switch between these views using the tabs at the top of the page.

Use Key Files to browse by folder

In Key Files, the left side shows a folder tree and the right side shows a document table scoped to the folder you selected.

  • Top-level folders separate targets, references, products, and other supporting materials.

  • Target folders can expand into more specific groups such as References cited, Prosecution history, Proceedings, Patent family, and uploaded chart-related documents when those materials exist.

  • Selecting a folder updates the table, breadcrumbs, counts, search results, sorting, and pagination for that scope.

Use this view when you want to stay inside one target or source area instead of rebuilding filters by hand.

Use All Files when you need one project-wide table

All Files keeps the project in a single searchable table. Use it when you want to sort or scan across every document regardless of source grouping.

This is usually the fastest view for broad cleanup tasks, exports, or cross-project-style searches inside one matter.

Preview a source without leaving the page

Selecting a row opens the inline source preview for that document.

  • PDF-backed documents render in the preview panel so you can inspect the source in place.

  • Audio and video documents show media controls in the preview instead of a blank PDF placeholder.

  • Inline source details show the selected document's metadata and quick actions.

Use Open details when you want to leave the source browser and open the document's full workspace.

Process documents from Files

Some folders contain source documents that are available to process. When processing is available, use the table selection controls and the process action for that folder scope. &AI queues the processing work and refreshes the folder data after the request starts.

Common questions

I do not see a document I expect.

First check that you are in the correct folder or source view. If needed, switch to All Files to confirm the document exists anywhere in the project.

I want the full document workspace, not just the preview.

Select the row, then use Open details from the inline source details area.

I need to add more materials.

Use the add-file controls from the Files page, then return to the folder tree or table once processing starts.
