Search Agent

Written by Caleb Harris

Search Agent is available when it is enabled for your organization.

Use Search Agent when you want &AI to run a guided search around one target patent, keep the investigation in a reusable thread, and let you review finalists before adding them into the project.

Search Agent can return patent, non-patent literature, product, and clinical-trial candidates in the same thread.

Open Search Agent from Search

Open a project and go to Search. The Search workspace keeps project-wide search findings in Results and individual search conversations in Sessions.

Click New search to open a draft search conversation in Andy. The draft is not saved as a Search session yet.

The Search session is created only after you send the first prompt. After that first message, the conversation appears in Sessions and any finalists or reviewable findings can also appear in Results.

Start the first prompt

A good first prompt usually says:

  • what kind of evidence you want

  • what date boundary matters

  • which claims, figures, or concepts matter most

  • any source, assignee, market, or product context that should guide the search

You can ask for prior art, NPL, product, or clinical-trial evidence in the same thread if that helps the investigation.

Follow the thread while it works

Search Agent keeps the work in a thread instead of a one-time result page. That lets you continue the same investigation with follow-up prompts instead of starting over.

While a run is active, the thread can show progress updates, tool activity, and finalist snapshots as candidates are produced.

Review finalists

When Search Agent finds candidates, they appear in the thread and in the optional results panel.

For each finalist, review the key metadata, the reasoning summary, and any attribution details that are available. Product finalists may still need manual follow-up before you decide they are strong enough to keep.

Approve, reject, or keep reviewing

Each finalist stays in review until you decide what to do with it.

Use the action controls to approve results you want to keep, reject results you do not want to use, or leave results pending while you compare them against other candidates.

Add approved results into the project

When one or more finalists are approved, the thread header shows + Add Selected.

Use this action when you want to bring approved Search Agent results into the project. Patent, NPL, and clinical-trial finalists are imported as project documents. Product finalists create or update project products and then route into product processing and downstream work.

Reuse and manage threads

Search Agent threads stay on the main Search page for the project. Reopen a prior thread to continue the same investigation, rename a useful thread, or archive older work when you no longer need it in the active list.

If Search Agent is not available

If Search Agent is not enabled for your organization, the Search page will show that the workflow is unavailable and you will not be able to create new search threads.
