Run a clinical trials search

Show how to run the clinical trials search mode and explain its availability constraints.

Written by Caleb Harris

Use clinical-trials search when the relevant evidence may appear in ClinicalTrials.gov rather than in patents, product pages, or general literature. This workflow is especially useful for life sciences, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical-device matters.

This workflow is available on PRO plans. Running searches costs tokens.

Clinical-trials search now runs inside a Search Agent thread.

Open the clinical-trials workflow

Start on the project's Search page and click New search.

Choose the target patent you want to search against and optionally add a title for the thread. Once the thread opens, tell Search Agent that you want clinical-trial evidence.

Tell Search Agent what kind of trials matter

A strong prompt usually includes:

  • the disease area, intervention type, or technology you care about

  • any date boundary that matters

  • the claim limitations or concepts that should guide the search

  • any sponsor, study, or terminology context that should narrow the results

Use follow-up prompts when you want Search Agent to tighten the scope, explain why a study matters, or look for related trial evidence around the same target patent.

Review trial finalists

Review whether each finalist looks like the right study, whether the dates and intervention details fit your theory, and whether the result is strong enough to bring into the project.

Approve the finalists you want to keep and reject the ones you do not want to use.

Add approved trial results into the project

When you are ready, use + Add Selected.

Approved clinical-trial finalists are added as project documents so you can continue into downstream review, processing, and charting.

After the search

From here, keep refining the same thread, add the strongest trial records into the project, or continue into downstream analysis.
