Chart and export settings

Explain how to configure chart defaults and export citation formatting.

Open chart and export settings when you want to control how new charts are generated and how exported claim charts read. These settings apply across the current project, so they are the best place to set a default charting and export style before the team starts work.

Chart and export settings are available on all plans.

Open chart and export settings

  1. Open a project.

  2. Click Settings in the left sidebar.

  3. Open the Charts tab.

Set chart-generation defaults

Use the top chart settings to decide how new charts should start across the project. Common controls include:

  • AI mode

  • Include Claims

  • Include Figures

  • Auto-Accept Citations

  • the results limit or citation count

  • Manual citation color

Use these controls when you want consistent project defaults instead of changing chart setup one run at a time.

Choose the right manual citation color

Manual citation color sets the starting color for citations you add manually from references or document review.

  • Choose a scored color when you already know how strong the citation should be.

  • Choose None when you want the citation to stay approved and exportable without affecting the chart score yet.

  • Later, during review, you can classify or recolor the manual citation once you are ready for it to carry a scored chart color.

Review citation and layout settings before export

The export area controls how citations and chart layout appear in Word exports. Use it to review and adjust:

  • citation profiles and citation position

  • whether evidence blocks are indented

  • page orientation and page margins

  • column labels, header styling, and chart colors

  • secondary-citation export behavior

This is the right place to standardize export style across a project or matter before generating final work product.

Choose which claims the export includes

When someone opens a chart export, &AI starts from all chartable claims by default. That is the best default when you want the export to include every claim that already has chartable work product.

  • Choose Asserted Claims when you want the export limited to the patent's asserted-claim scope.

  • Choose a custom limitation selection when you only want a targeted subset of claims or limitations.

  • If you make an explicit selection in the export flow, &AI uses that selection for the generated document.

Keep figure citations and images together in Word exports

Use Keep figure citations together when a text citation and its linked figure image should stay on the same page when they fit. This helps Word exports read as one continuous row instead of splitting the figure away from the supporting citation.

Leave this setting on when figure-backed evidence should stay visually paired. Turn it off only when you prefer fully splittable export rows or you are troubleshooting a specific pagination edge case.

Control exported images

The image settings affect figures, screenshots, and other image-backed evidence in exported claim charts.

  • Turn images on or off separately for invalidity and evidence-of-use charts.

  • Choose whether images are left-aligned or centered in the chart cell.

  • Use Image DPI to balance file size against print sharpness.

Add borders to exported images

Use the image-border controls when exported images need a stronger visual frame.

  • Image borders turns borders on or off for exported claim chart images.

  • Image border color sets the hex color used for those borders.

  • Image border width sets the border thickness in points.

These border settings apply across exported chart images, including figures, screenshots, tables, equations, media-derived images, and other embedded image evidence.

Use preview before final export

When you change citation or layout settings, use the preview before you rely on the result in a final chart. Preview is the best way to confirm that citation formatting, image presentation, and page layout match the style you want.

Recommended workflow

  1. Open Project Settings and review the Charts tab.

  2. Set project-wide defaults for AI mode, claims, figures, citation count, and manual citation color.

  3. Review citation and layout settings that affect exported claim charts.

  4. Adjust image settings, including DPI and image borders, if the export needs a different visual style.

  5. Use preview, then run the final export once the output looks right.
