Convert an Opportunity into a project

Convert an Opportunity into a project to generate pitch materials.

Written by Caleb Harris

When an Opportunity is worth acting on, the next step is to turn it into a project. This workflow creates the project shell and carries the case into the standard project experience so you can keep working inside the matter.

This workflow is available when your organization has access to Opportunities and the selected opportunity is eligible for project creation.

When Create Project is available

&AI only enables Create Project when the opportunity is actually ready for it. An opportunity can be converted when:

  • it is not already marked as converted

  • it is not already linked to an existing project

  • it has at least one patent in suit

If those conditions are not met, the action is disabled or hidden. This prevents you from starting a project before the matter has enough patent context to support the next stage of work.

Start from the opportunity detail page

Open the Opportunity detail page and click Create Project in the page header. This is the best path when you have already reviewed the case, parties, and recommendation context and want to act on one opportunity immediately.

Start from the Opportunities list

From the Opportunities table, select a single eligible row and use Create Project from the bulk toolbar.

If you select multiple opportunities, Create Project stays disabled. Create projects one opportunity at a time so each new matter can be reviewed and seeded with the correct case details.

Create the project shell

Clicking Create Project opens the standard project-creation modal used elsewhere in &AI. Enter the project name and review any normal project setup options your workspace shows.

This flow no longer asks you to set search counts, charting parameters, pitch-deck templates, or delivery email during opportunity conversion. The handoff now focuses on getting the project created first and then confirming the case inside the project.

Review the pre-filled case details

After the project is created, &AI routes you to the new project's overview page and opens the Add Case Number modal automatically.

The modal is pre-filled with the opportunity's case number and district court. Review those values, update them if needed, and submit the case so the new project starts with the right litigation context.

Continue work in the new project

After you add the case, continue in the project as you normally would. From the project overview, you can upload the complaint, add more sources, start search work, or move into the rest of the matter setup.

If the opportunity is already linked to a project, open that project instead of creating a new one.
